Due to the increased workload placed on practice nurses and surgeries, a growing number of GP practices can no longer offer ear wax removal or are unable to offer it as an urgent treatment, often resulting in a long and frustrating wait for patients.
We hope that the following information will enable your practice to confidently inform patients regarding the alternative treatment options available for ear wax removal in Reading and surrounding areas commencing on the 30th October 2019.
The treatment options (alternative to those offered by your surgery) are as follows:
Microsuction (NHS)
Referral to treatment waiting time: 16 weeks (average wait)
Locations: (Royal Berkshire Hospital
Cost to patient: Cost of parking only
Referral process: Referral from GP Surgery to hospital
Microsuction at Interhearing (Private)
Referral to treatment waiting time: 3-5 days (average wait)
Location: Brookside Surgery, 1 Brookside Close, Earley RG6 7HG
Cost to patient: £65 (per patient)
Age of patients seen: 16+
Referral process: Patient can call Interhearing directly on 0800 002 9503 (option 2) to book an appointment (please see the patient information leaflet enclosed).
